In detail

What a hardstanding pitch gives you.

Level hardstanding, and why it matters more than people expect

The single biggest difference between storage sites is what you're parking on. A field is cheap until January, when it becomes something you can't tow a twin-axle off without churning it into a mess or getting properly stuck.

Our pitches are level hardstanding. That means you can manoeuvre in and out in any weather, you don't need jacks or chocks to get the van sitting right, and the underside of your caravan isn't spending eight months absorbing damp rising out of wet ground.

Level standing also matters for the van itself. Doors and drawers behave, the fridge sits as designed, and water drains where it's supposed to instead of pooling.

Room to turn, which is rarer than it sounds

Plenty of storage yards are laid out to fit the maximum number of vehicles in, which is fine until you try to reverse a 22-foot twin-axle between two other people's caravans on a wet Tuesday in November.

Wide gateways and turning room are deliberate here. Customers regularly tell us that manoeuvring off the pitch is easier than getting off their own driveway — which, for anyone who has spent twenty minutes shunting a caravan back and forth in front of an audience of neighbours, is the whole point.

If you're towing something unusually long, tell us when you enquire and we'll allocate accordingly rather than letting you find out on arrival.

What we take

Touring caravans including twin-axles, motorhomes, campervans, boats on trailers, ribs, jet skis, day boats, box trailers, plant trailers, horseboxes and light plant. If it's on wheels and it's legal, it's probably fine.

Oversized or unusual items are worth a phone call rather than an assumption — the answer is normally yes, occasionally no, and it takes thirty seconds to establish which.

One firm rule: no fuel or gas bottles left on board. Drain what you can and take portable fuel and gas home with you. It's a fire risk on a yard full of other people's property and it affects the insurance position for everybody.

Preparation makes the difference in spring

Most of the damage a stored vehicle suffers happens while it stands still, and almost all of it is preventable in an afternoon. Damp, flat batteries, flat-spotted tyres and split water systems account for the overwhelming majority of "it was fine when I put it away" conversations.

The short version: get it properly dry inside, empty and drain the water system completely, take the battery out or keep it on a trickle charger, prop cupboards and the fridge open so air circulates, and inflate the tyres before it sits.

We've written the whole thing up in the winter storage guide, including what to do about covers, handbrakes and insurance. It's worth twenty minutes of reading before you hand over the keys to a season.

Access whenever the weather turns good

You can get to your vehicle every day of the year between 7:30am and 8:30pm. No booking, no notice, no slot to reserve.

That matters more for boats than anything else. When the forecast turns and you decide on Friday night that Saturday looks good, you want to be able to hitch up at half seven in the morning rather than waiting for an office to open on Monday.

It also means winter checks are easy. Dropping in once a month to air a caravan out and move it a few feet takes ten minutes and prevents most of the problems people discover in April.

Insurance and your storage address

Tell your insurer where the vehicle is being kept. Many policies specify a storage address, and some reduce the premium for a fenced, gated, CCTV-monitored site — but a claim from an address your insurer doesn't know about is a claim you may struggle to make.

Check too whether your policy requires a hitch lock, wheel clamp or tracker to be fitted while in storage. It's a common condition and an easy one to overlook until it matters.

Photograph the vehicle inside and out before it goes away, and keep the CRiS or serial number somewhere that isn't inside the vehicle itself.

Pitch FAQs

The detail.

What size vehicles can you accommodate?
Most of them. We have pitches that take anything from a small trailer up to an 8m motorhome. For something unusually long or wide, send us a photo and dimensions and we’ll confirm.
Can I drop off and pick up whenever I want?
Yes — anytime within our access window of 7:30am to 8:30pm, every day of the year. There’s no booking system to wrestle with.
Is the site CCTV monitored?
Yes, 24/7 CCTV across the yard, plus secure gated entry and steel fencing.
Should I add a hitch lock or wheel clamp?
We strongly recommend it as an extra layer. The CaSSOA wheel-clamp/hitch combos are popular with our customers.
Do you offer winter-only storage?
Yes — many caravan owners take a pitch from October through to March. Just ask for our seasonal rate.
